Abstract

This study discusses the influence of Instagram social media on students' political arguments at STKIP PGRI Nganjuk Campus by applying the CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) Learning Model. Related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on point-4 on quality education, this study highlights the role of lecturers as educators who not only have the capacity and ability, but also character who become role models for students. This study identifies the gap between 21st century learning approaches at the primary and secondary education levels and the use of conventional modes in higher education. The challenge for lecturers is to improve the quality of Tridharma through the Merdeka Belajar program and Permendikbudristek Dikti Number 53 of 2023. Lecturers are faced with the task of preparing students to face the era of globalization by improving their thinking, learning, communication, and action skills. These skills include problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills which are key to student success in the community. Furthermore, this study underscores the importance of addressing the challenges of the Post-Truth era by providing examples of the ethics of communicating on social media, especially Instagram. The low level of online politeness in Indonesia is the background to explore the innovative potential of lecturers in providing political argumentative learning through the Instagram comment column. The research was conducted with a qualitative descriptive approach, involving data collection from student Instagram comment columns and literature studies. The results show that the application of the CTL Learning Model in higher education can create an engaging and meaningful learning experience. The conclusion of this study is that Instagram has a significant influence on students' political arguments, and the application of the CTL Learning Model can help in understanding the concepts and values of political culture in depth. Implications include a better understanding of the role of social media in shaping students' political opinions and the development of learning strategies that are adaptive to technological developments and student behavior in the age of social media.
