A nation that wants to have an advanced civilization must pay attention to developments within its own country. One aspect that needs to be considered is education. Education is a means for someone to increase their knowledge and develop themselves for certain purposes through various learning methods. Education refers to the Human Development Index (HDI) as an indicator of a country's progress. Of course, in developing and advancing education the role of teachers as educators cannot be separated. Without teachers, the learning process will not be successful and produce knowledgeable successors to the nation. This means that the government must improve teacher welfare as a step to maintain teacher quality and improve their performance. One thing the government can do is provide salaries commensurate with what teachers have devoted. However, there are several regions in Indonesia that have low paid teachers. One of these areas is East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The salaries that the teachers there receive indirectly decrease their welfare and this causes a decrease in their performance. The study we conducted to compile the article and explore this problem was a literature study from several relevant sources. The aim of writing this article is to find out the impact of the low salaries received by teachers in East Sumba Regency on their welfare. We also examine the relationship between salaries and the welfare of these teachers in terms of their long-term impact so that the relationship is more visible.
